AKP students from member colleges pay the comprehensive fees of their own schools. Non-consortium students are charged a comprehensive fee based on prevailing fees among member institutions.
Costs of social, recreational and extracurricular activities, modes of dress, travel, and other incidentals vary depending on the particular student. Past AKP students have spent amounts averaging approximately ¥40,000 a month (recent exchange rates have ranged from ¥110-120 per dollar). Students who wish to economize on this amount can do so by spending less on the incidentals listed above.
Consortium students who receive financial aid from their home institutions continue to do so as participants in the program. They should discuss payment procedures with the Financial Aid and Business offices at their home institutions. Non-consortium students should consult their Financial Aid and Study Abroad Offices before applying, to determine whether financial assistance will be transferable. View available scholarships.
The $500 enrollment deposit is returned to the student after arrival in Kyoto at the prevailing exchange rate. The deposit is forfeited if the student does not enroll in the program.
AKP is a two-semester program and students are expected to spend the full academic year with the program. If a student should decide to withdraw from the program at the end of the first semester for any reason other than personal emergency or should s/he be dismissed for cause there is a charge equivalent to 2/3 of the spring semester fee.
AKP students will enroll in the Japanese National Health Insurance plan during the Kyoto orientation (included in the program fee). Each student must provide proof of additional health and accident insurance coverage that will be in force during the year to supplement the Japanese National Health Insurance plan. This insurance may be arranged either through the home institution or through a family health plan. Students should consult with the health services and study abroad offices on their respective campuses.
