Arrival and Orientation

Arriving in Japan

Upon landing in Japan, be sure to fill out your disembarkation card with the Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel information:

Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel
605 Tatsumae-cho, Shimochojamachi-agaru, Karasuma-dori
Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto 602-0912
Phone : 075-411-0111

At the airport, go through Immigration and obtain:

Resident card 在留カード( ざいりゅうカード, issued automatically)
Part-time work permit 資格外活動許可( しかくがいかつどうきょか, must request)

We ask that you get a part-time work permit when entering Japan in case you want to teach English conversation courses. You must request the part-time work permit at immigration: it will not be issued automatically. AKP will provide you with the necessary form for the work permit before you leave for Japan.

After going through Immigration, you will claim your checked luggage and go through Customs. Once you have cleared Customs, you can drop off your larger luggage at Yamato Transport and make your way to Kyoto and the Garden Palace Hotel.

If you land at the Kansai International Airport or Osaka Itami International Airport, we recommend that you take the MK Skygate Shuttle directly from the airport to the Garden Palace.

MK Skygate Shuttle Information
Reservations are required. Make it online several days before your departure, giving Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel as your destination. Fares and more information available here.

If you land at an airport in Tokyo or elsewhere and do not have a connecting flight to the Kansai or Osaka Itami airports, we recommend that you take the Shinkansen to Kyoto Station and then a taxi to the Garden Palace. You can take the Shinkansen to Kyoto from Shinagawa Station in Tokyo, which can be reached by train from Narita Airport via the Narita Express, and from Haneda Airport via the Keikyu Line.
