Experiencing Wagashi

Today was the Spring Semester Japanese class field trip. Together we visited a wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) shop in Kamishichiken called Oimatsu and experienced making our own wagashi.

The entrance to Oimatsu.

Everyone started by washing and disinfecting their hands.

Students closely listening to the wagashi artisan.
Everyone is very serious.
You then cover the dough to make sure it doesn’t dry.
Finished! Very well done.

At the end, the AKPers were able to eat the wagashi they made and try them with green tea. They were also able to bring any leftovers home as a souvenir.
