Kansaiben Lecture for Spring Students

Today was the first Kansaiben Lecture for spring semester! As always, Nishimata-sensei from KCJS taught our spring students the ins and outs of Kansaiben.

It’s not uncommon for our host families to speak in Kansaiben, so take the opportunity to practice with them!

Sweets Making Workshop

Students went on a field trip to the wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) shop Oimatsu to attend a sweets making workshop!

They learned how to knead the dough made from sweet beans into traditional flower shapes, and even made a few original designs!

Afterwards, everyone ate their creations with matcha green tea. Yum!

Disaster Drill

Today, we had a disaster drill to practice what to do in the event of an emergency on campus.

In an earthquake, it’s important to hide under a sturdy table to protect your head and body from falling objects.

Once the shaking has stopped, it’s time to head to the designated meeting place. For Doshisha and AKP, the meeting place is the Kyoto Imperial Palace grounds, just across the street from campus. Everyone, remember to come here in an emergency situation!
