hiragana ha Experience Japan as an Insider

The homestay program is fully integrated into the AKP language and elective course programs.  Host families provide students with a unique window through which to view Japan.  Over the years, AKP has built up a large pool of generous, experienced families with new families joining the program every year.  For many students, the homestay is the most memorable part of their Kyoto experience, and contact with their homestay families often continues long after the students have graduated from college.

  • Homestays afford students countless chances to communicate, explore, and experience Japan as a member of a Japanese family.  They will connect you with your community and provide opportunities for cultural learning and discovery.
  • Enjoy a home cooked breakfast and dinner each day with your host family.  Every year students rave about the dishes and stories shared across the table.  The AKP also provides a daily lunch subsidy (7 days/week).
  • The AKP covers the cost of commuting from your homestay to the AKP Center.
