Bardwell Smith Visiting Faculty Fellowship

This award was established in 2004, as a way of honoring one of the founding fathers of the AKP. Professor Smith is an emeritus Professor of History at Carleton College and he served the AKP in a number of capacities. In addition to serving as one of the AKP’s early resident directors, Professor Smith was instrumental in establishing the AKP Endowment, which makes the VFF program possible.

Ray Moore Visiting Faculty Fellowship

Professor Moore is an emeritus Professor of History at Amherst College and he served the AKP in a number of capacities. In addition to serving as the resident “historian of AKP,” Professor Moore was instrumental in establishing the AKP Endowment, which makes the VFF program possible.

Robert Wood Visiting Faculty Fellowship

This award was established in 1998 as a tribute to the work of Professor Robert Wood who served as Resident Director of the AKP in 1991–1992. Professor Wood was a long time supporter and friend of the AKP in his capacity as a member of the faculty at both Doshisha University and Carleton College where he often taught courses on Japanese sociology.
